My first trip to TIME Dominican Republic began with a lot of uncertainty. I felt that God was calling me to go with my home church (Dayspring Fellowship in Keizer, Oregon). I went to the meeting at the church and found more about the ministry and learned basic information about the trip. The cost seemed very high, and I knew that God would have to provide. Nevertheless, I prayed a lot and sent out my support letters. By the time the group was ready to leave, God had provided all the finances I needed and then some.

During the preparation phase of the trip, 2 men on our team accepted Christ as their Savior. They are still on fire for the Lord to this day. Their lives were changed. They came from death in sins, to life in Christ. Their wives and families were amazed at the change God brought about in their lives. One gave in to God in his car after our second meeting and the other on the way to the Dominican Republic. The other was on drugs on the airplane to the Dominican Republic. The group had no Idea that he was struggling giving up this part of his life to God. In Miami we all held hands and prayed for God’s healing in his life. Wow, what a change. He continues to be clean and sober and has since returned to the Dominican Republic on another TIME trip.

Upon arrival in the Dominican Republic, it was definitely a strange place. The security that I had felt in the US was gone. I had a new security, God would care for me and I needed Him. Yet I felt peace that I was in the place where God wanted me. The group I was with ranged in age from 9 months to over seventy.

During my time in the Dominican Republic I was able to share my testimony of God’s plan of salvation for me and my decision to turn my life over to Him. Our group sang songs for the small churches we visited. The 12 of us were able to build and raise a chapel for a very poor church on the south coast of the Dominican Republic. God took an average team and formed us into a family and I still consider those team members to be dear friends.

In Christ's Love,

Jim Snyder
